Before we dive into the heart of the book, let’s take a moment to zoom out. Why does this book matter right now? Why am I so passionate about getting it into as many hands as possible? Because behind all the excitement and the symbolic crossroads that the character on the cover of my book, Health Hero Girl, faces… there’s a more profound, urgent truth. Our health—collectively and individually—is in trouble. And we can’t afford to ignore it or keep approaching it the same way.
We don’t lack health information in the U.S. either —we should know what to do. If anything, we’re drowning in information. Everywhere you turn, another message tells us what to do. Some of it’s common sense, but much of it isn’t. Yesterday, I saw this ad below pop up telling me to drink olive oil. Really?!
The truth is, we know we need to eat more vegetables, exercise regularly, manage stress, and get enough sleep. We know these things. And yet, despite all this knowledge, we’re moving in the wrong direction.
📉 3 out of 4 Americans are overweight or obese.
📉 6 in 10 have at least one chronic disease.
📉 4 in 10 have two or more.
📉 Gallup’s latest poll reports that Americans feel worse about their mental and physical health than ever before.
The gap between what we know and what we do is enormous. And I had to study it to help people overcome it, so I did.
Why Is This Happening?
Because we expect a one-size-fits-all approach will overcome our health issues - a pill, a program, a secret fruit, ionized water…they don’t work. Quick fixes and one-size-fits-all approaches backfire. And worst of all, every failed attempt chips away at our confidence (and bank account), making us feel like the problem is us—when the issue is how we approach health itself.
That’s why I wrote Health Shift. I wrote this book not to tell you what to do—but to give you the tools to figure it out for yourself. Because here’s the truth: you’re incredibly smart. You can do this. But you’ve been misled—by our culture, the healthcare system, the media, and the unrealistic expectations that have quietly shaped how we think about health. Most of us have unknowingly accepted this as normal, without ever questioning it.
That ends now.

In my years working in healthcare and health coaching, I saw something powerful: when people had support—not lectures or rigid plans but actual guidance tailored to them—they succeeded.
Health coaching works because it connects psychology with action. It helps people bridge the gap between who they are and who they want to be. But not everyone has access to coaching.
